Check for smooth operation and adjust clearance. Clutch adjustment may be required if the motorcycle stalls when shifting or tends to drift or if the clutch slips, causing acceleration to lag behind engine speed. A normal play/clearance is 10-20mm at the lever.
- To adjust clearance or free play, loosen the jam nut. Turn the adjusting nut to obtain the specified free play. Tighten the lock nut and check for free play.
- Start the engine, depress the clutch lever and shift. Make sure that the engine does not stall, and that the motorcycle does not skid. Gradually release the clutch lever and open the throttle. The bike should start smoothly and accelerate.
Note:
Check that the clutch cable routing is correct. If proper adjustment cannot be achieved or the clutch does not function properly, visit your authorized Hero workshop or authorized dealer.
Other inspections::
- Check the clutch cable for signs of wear or kinks that could cause failure or binding.
- Check the model of the clutch cable. Use genuine clutch cable.
- Check clutch cable routing.
Air pressure
Properly inflated tires offer the best combination of handling, tread and ride comfort. In general, underinflated tires wear unevenly, adversely affect handling, and are more prone to failure or overheating. Underinflated tires can also cause wheel damage in rocky terrain.
Highly inflating tires makes for a harsher ride, they are more prone to damage from surface hazards, and wear. Makes valve stem caps secure. If necessary, install a new cover.
Caution
Inflation above or below will affect performance.
Inspection
Any time you check tire pressure, you should also examine the treads and sidewalls for wear, damage, and foreign objects.
Look for:
- Lumps or bumps on the tire or tread side. Replace the tire if you find any bulge or bulges.
- Cuts, fractures or cracks in the tire.
- Excessive wear.
Note
If you hit a hole in the road or a hard object, pull over to the side of the road as soon as you can safely and carefully inspect the tires and damage. Wear Replace tires immediately when the wear indicator appears on the rim. Check the wear indicator on the tire wear strip.
