Tires with tube
The tires on your motorcycle are designed to match the performance capabilities of your motorcycle and provide the best combination of handling, braking, durability, and comfort. To safely operate the motorcycle, tires must be of the recommended type and size, in good condition, with proper tread, and properly inflated.
Air pressure
Properly inflated tires offer the best combination of handling, tread and ride comfort. In general, underinflated tires wear unevenly, adversely affect handling, and are more prone to failure or overheating. Underinflated tires can also cause wheel damage in rocky terrain.
Highly inflating tires makes for a harsher ride, they are more prone to damage from surface hazards, and wear. Makes valve stem caps secure. If necessary, install a new cover.
Caution
Inflation above or below will affect performance.
Inspection
Anytime you check tire pressure, you should also examine the treads and sidewalls for wear, damage, and foreign object damage.
Look for:
- Lumps or bumps on the tire or tread side. Replace the tire if you find any bulge or bulges.
- Cuts, fractures or cracks in the tire.
- Excessive wear.
Note
If you hit a hole in the road or a hard object, pull over to the side of the road as soon as you can safely and carefully inspect the tires and damage.
Wear
Replace tires immediately when the wear indicator appears on the rim. Check the wear indicator on the tire wear strip.
One way tiress
Make sure the arrow mark on the tire is in the same direction as the forward rotation of the wheel, each time the tire is removed and put back in case of puncture.
Warning
- Using tires that are excessively worn or underinflated can cause an accident in which you can be seriously injured or killed.
- Operation with excessively worn tires is dangerous and will adversely affect handling.
- Follow all instructions in this owner’s manual regarding tire inflation and maintenance.
- Under-inflation can result in the tire or tires coming off the rim.
Tubeless tires
The tires mounted on their motorcycles are tubeless.
To safely operate the motorcycle, tires must be the proper type and size, in good condition with proper tread, and properly inflated for the load being carried. The following pages offer more detailed information on how and when to check your air pressure, how to inspect your tires for damage, and what to do when your tires need to be repaired or replaced.
Warning
Using tires that are excessively worn or underinflated can cause an accident in which you can be seriously injured or killed. Follow all instructions in this owner’s manual regarding tire inflation and maintenance.
Air pressure
Keeping your tires properly inflated offers the best combination of handling, tread and ride comfort. In general, under-inflated tires wear unevenly, adversely affect handling, and are more prone to failure from overheating.
Badly underinflated tires can make your motorcycle ride very harsh, they are more prone to damage from road hazards, and uneven wear.
We recommend that you visually check the tires before each trip and use a gauge to measure the air pressure at least once a month or whenever you think the tire pressure might be low.
Tubeless tires have some ability to self-seal if they are punctured. However, because the leakage is usually very slow, you should look closely for punctures any time a tire is not fully inflated.
Always check the air pressure when the tires are “cold” – when the motorcycle has been parked for at least three hours. If you check the air pressure when the tires are “warm” – when the motorcycle has been ridden for even a few miles – the readings will be higher than if the tires are “cold”. This is normal, so do not let the air in your tires match the recommended cold air pressures listed below. If you do, the tires will be under-inflated.
Carefully inspect the tires for damage if the motorcycle hits a hole or a hard object.
Wear
Replace the tires immediately when the wear indicator appears on the tire. Check the wear indicator on the tire wear strip.
One way tires
Every time the tire is removed and put back on in the event of a puncture, ensure the arrow mark on the tire is in the same direction as the forward rotation of the wheel.
Warning
Operation with excessively worn tires is dangerous and will negatively affect traction and handling.
Under-inflation can result in the tire(s) slipping or coming off the rim.
Always use the size and type of tires recommended in this owner’s manual.
Note
For the repair and replacement of tires it is recommended to visit your authorized Hero MotoCorp workshop.
Important Safety Reminders
- Do not install a tube inside a tubeless tire on this motorcycle. Excessive heat buildup can cause the tube to rupture.
- Use only this tubeless tire on this motorcycle. The rims are designed for tubeless tyres, and under hard acceleration or braking, a tube-type tire could fall on the rim and cause the tire to deflate rapidly.
